What it is

The short version

Flame safeguard and programmer, scanner, ignition transformer and electrodes, pilot assembly, gas train components, actuators and linkage. Between them these account for the large majority of burner lockouts that are not a fuel supply problem.

Almost all of it is model-specific. The same control ships in several configurations: different timings, different voltages, different terminal arrangements. So a part number without a photo of the wiring is a coin flip.

What makes it the right part

Like-for-like or upgrade
A direct replacement keeps the sequence and the wiring. An upgrade may bring better diagnostics or communications but usually changes the base and the wiring, which turns a one-hour swap into a panel job.
The listing
Safety components carry listings for a reason. Substituting outside the listing is not a cost decision, it is a code and insurance decision.
Scanner type
Ultraviolet and infrared see different flames. The fuel and the burner design decide which is correct, and swapping type without checking is a common source of intermittent flame failure.
Voltage and timing
Control voltage and purge and trial timings must match the existing sequence and the applicable code.
